What 66 means

On Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive Phase 6 top-load washers, code 66 is a pressure transducer error. The water-level sensor is sending a signal with a frequency above 90 kHz, which is outside its normal range. In later Motor Control software versions, code 66 replaces the older code 65. The washer stops its cycle and shows 66. It is a sensor problem, not a hose problem.

Common causes of 66

  • Pressure transducer (water-level sensor) output frequency too high
  • Sensor wiring or connection problem
  • Motor Control Module reading the sensor wrongly
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Empty the washer and let it drain fully. 2. Switch off the breaker for one minute, then restore power. 3. Run a short rinse with no laundry. 4. If 66 returns, stop using the washer and call us. 5. Do not run clothes through the washer meanwhile.

! Why to stop there
  • The sensor and its connector sit inside the cabinet.
  • The sensor and the control board can both produce this reading.
  • We quote in writing first and add a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

6666 questions
What does 90 kHz mean?

The sensor reports water level as a signal frequency. When that frequency goes above 90 kHz the control treats the sensor as out of range.

Why is there no code 65 on my washer?

On later Phase 6 control versions, code 66 takes over from code 65 for this sensor problem. Without a water-level reading, loads can overfill or underfill.

Can I still wash?

We advise against it. Without a trusted water-level reading the washer cannot fill accurately. We confirm the cause and quote the price before any parts are fitted.
