On Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart top-load washers, code 250 means the Smart Pump has lost sync. The pump runs in step with the control, and the washer has detected that the two are no longer in agreement. The owner sees the cycle stop with 250 on the display, often during a fill, drain or top-up step.
1. Unplug the washer and wait a few minutes. 2. Check the drain hose for kinks. 3. Look for small items in the basket or around the tub edge. 4. Plug the washer in and run one drain-and-spin. 5. If 250 returns, stop and book a visit.
The washer sends signals to run the pump at a certain pace. If the pump falls out of step with those signals, the control cannot trust it and shuts the step down with 250.
Not always. A partial jam or a loose connection can cause the same reading. That is why we check how the pump behaves before ordering a new one.
You can bail water out with a cup while the washer is unplugged, which is useful before moving the machine. It does not fix the code.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
