What Code 2 means

On Fisher & Paykel SmartLoad and AeroSmart dryers such as the DEGX1, DGGX1 and DE27CW1, Code 2 means the sensor module cannot locate the drum gap. The drum has indentations that the sensor reads optically so the dryer knows its drum position and speed. When that reading is lost, the dryer shows Code 2 and stops, often with a damp load inside.

Common causes of Code 2

  • Sensor module unable to read the drum indentations
  • Dirt or lint covering the optical reading area
  • Drum or belt not turning as expected
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the dryer off and unplug it for a minute. 2. Open the door and turn the drum by hand to check it moves freely. 3. Clean the lint screen and the door opening. 4. Plug in and run a short cycle. If Code 2 returns, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The optical reading area is inside the cabinet.
  • A drum that turns badly needs inspection, not repeated starts.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Code 2Code 2 questions
What is the drum gap?

It is a set of indentations on the drum that the sensor module reads optically, like a position marker. Code 2 means the module could not find that marker as the drum turned.

Can lint cause Code 2?

It can cover the area the sensor reads, so cleaning lint is a safe first step. A drum that will not turn smoothly is a separate problem and needs a technician.

Is it safe to keep trying cycles?

We suggest stopping after one repeat. If the drum cannot be tracked, heat and tumbling may not be controlled correctly. We inspect it and give a written price first.
