On Fisher & Paykel SmartLoad and AeroSmart dryers like the DEGX1, DGGX1, DE27CW1 and DG27CW1, Code 8 means the exhaust sensor measured an over temperature of 185 F (85 C). The air leaving the drum got hotter than the dryer allows, so it stops heating. The parts involved are the sensor circuit, the heating element, the controller and the sensor module. The display shows the code.
1. Switch off the dryer and let it cool for at least thirty minutes. 2. Clean the lint screen and look into its slot for buildup. 3. Check that the exhaust hose behind the dryer is not crushed or kinked. 4. Run a small load on a low-heat setting. 5. If Code 8 returns, stop using the dryer and call us.
It is the first thing to rule out, because trapped air raises exhaust temperature quickly. Clean the lint screen and check the hose, then call us if the code returns.
It is the exhaust air limit this dryer allows. Beyond it the control cuts the heat, which is why the clothes stay damp and the display shows Code 8.
We would not rely on that. If the heat controls are suspect, it is safer to leave the dryer off until we have checked the sensor and the element.
