Code 9 on Fisher & Paykel SmartLoad and AeroSmart dryers, including the DEGX1, DGGX1, DE27CW1 and DG27CW1, means the exhaust sensor reads an under temperature, below 14 F (-10 C). A reading that low is not realistic for dryer exhaust, and it typically points to an open-circuit thermistor. The display shows the code and the dryer stops or will not heat.
1. Switch the dryer off at its breaker for a minute and restart it. 2. Run a short cycle with a small load. 3. If the dryer is in a very cold garage, let it warm to room temperature first. 4. If Code 9 appears again, do not open the cabinet. Leave the dryer off and call us to test the sensor.
The sensor is a thermistor whose resistance changes with heat. If its circuit breaks open, the control reads an extreme cold value, and Code 9 appears.
Not usually. The reading is false, caused by the open sensor circuit, so the dryer shuts down for safety even though the air is fine.
Only an extremely cold room would, and it would be unusual. If warming the room does not change anything, the sensor or its wiring is the likely cause.
