On Fisher & Paykel SmartLoad and AeroSmart dryers such as the DEGX1, DGGX1, DE27CW1 and DG27CW1, Code 4 means the motor control module read an invalid heat source option link. That link tells the control which type of heating the dryer has. This code is not expected on standard US gas or electric models, so seeing it points to a control or wiring problem. The display shows the code.
1. Switch the dryer off at its breaker, wait about a minute, then switch it on again. 2. Start a short cycle and watch whether the code returns. 3. Do not open the cabinet or try to move any connectors. 4. If Code 4 comes back, write down the full model number and call us. Because this code is rare on US units, a technician should inspect it.
It is a setting on the motor control that tells the dryer what kind of heating it uses. If the control cannot read it as valid, it reports Code 4.
It is not expected on standard US gas or electric models, so a repeat appearance usually points to the control module or its connection rather than anything you did.
It may clear a one-time glitch. If the code returns on the next start, the control needs inspection, and resetting again will not fix it.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
