Fisher & Paykel GWL11 Repair

Fisher & Paykel washer

Most common issues on this model

  1. Pump jammed or tripped on heat, leaving the bowl full
  2. Pump windings ruined by a slow leak that went unnoticed
  3. Error indications that trace back to the motor control module and not the motor
  4. Agitator bolt seized in place, so the agitator will not lift out for cleaning

The GWL11 is an EcoSmart top-loader built for US 120V, 60Hz power and no longer sold new. You find it in a house that has kept it since the mid-size family years, parked against a wall with a utility sink nearby. Its pump runs in short bursts to move water, which asks a lot of the pump and its windings over time.

When water stays in the bowl, we first free the pump from debris, then check whether it has cut out from heat. A pump that sat wet from a slow leak has damaged windings and gets replaced. Where the error trail points to the control module, we test the module before blaming the motor.

The price is written down before work begins, and our repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty.

GWL11GWL11 questions
My GWL11 leaves water in the bowl. What do you do first?

We free the pump from debris and check whether it tripped on heat. If the pump windings show water damage from a leak, we replace the pump and trace the leak so it does not happen again.

Why do the error indications point at the control module?

The module drives the motor, so a failed module looks like a failed motor. We test the module output and the motor winding separately, which keeps us from replacing the wrong part.

My agitator will not come off for cleaning. Can you free it?

A seized agitator bolt is a known wear item on this style. We free it without cracking the agitator and fit a new bolt where needed, so cleaning the bowl base stays possible.
