On Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart and EcoSmart top-load washers such as the WA37T26EW and WA42T26GW, code 254 means the Motor Control Module software version is too old for the display to support. The display and the motor control no longer match each other. The owner sees 254 as soon as the washer powers up, and the washer will not run a cycle until the two parts match.
1. Unplug the washer for a few minutes and plug it back in. 2. Note whether 254 appears immediately at power-up. 3. If a board was replaced recently, tell us which one. 4. Do not keep power cycling the washer, because the mismatch will not change on its own.
A module replaced earlier may be a different version from the one it works with. The display then refuses to talk to a motor control it considers too old.
It will only clear the message for a moment. Since the mismatch is in the modules themselves, 254 returns on the next power-up.
No. 254 is a compatibility message, not a sign that the motor or water system has failed. The washer simply will not start until the right control module is in place.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
