On Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart and EcoSmart top-load washers such as the WA37T26EW and WA42T26GW, and on SmartDrive Phase 2 to 6 models like the GWL11, code 104 means the display module detected a communications timeout with the motor control module. The two boards stopped talking to each other. The washer shows the number and the cycle will not continue normally. It is closely related to code 106.
1. Stop the cycle, unplug the washer for a full minute, and plug it back in. 2. Run a short drain and spin with nothing inside. 3. Check that the cord is fully seated and not shared with a power strip. 4. If code 104 returns, leave the washer off and book a visit. The wiring between modules is behind panels that we open with the power disconnected.
The display module and the motor control module pass messages back and forth. Code 104 means one stopped answering in time, so the washer cannot carry on with the cycle.
They are related. Both report a failed conversation between the display and motor control modules. A technician reads which one appears and tests the link and both boards.
