On Fisher & Paykel legacy 30-inch wall ovens such as the OS302, OD302, OS301 and OD301, and the OB30DDEPX1, F3 means excessive cavity temperature. The oven temperature was sensed at over 600 F (315 C) during normal cooking operation. The display shows F3 and the oven stops heating to protect itself. The cavity is far hotter than what you selected, and the cooking is interrupted. The oven stays off until it cools.
1. Turn the oven off and let it cool completely with the door closed. 2. Check that nothing is stored in the oven or blocking its vents. 3. Switch the breaker off for a minute and back on. 4. Try a bake at 350 F for a short time. 5. If F3 returns, stop using the oven and call us.
In normal cooking, no. Self clean runs hotter, but regular bake and broil stay well below that. F3 means the oven went far beyond what you set.
Either can cause it. A sensor that under-reads makes the control keep heating, while a stuck relay heats regardless. We test both before replacing anything.
Turn off the oven at the breaker, keep the door closed, and open windows. Do not use it again until we have inspected it. A burning smell can mean something inside is overheating.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
