What 245 means

On Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart top-load washers, code 245 means the Smart Pump has stalled and the pump needs checking. The Smart Pump moves water in and out of the machine, so when it stalls the washer cannot drain or recirculate properly. The owner usually sees the cycle stop with 245 on the display and water left in the tub.

Common causes of 245

  • Something jammed in the Smart Pump so it cannot turn
  • Pump motor not producing enough force to move
  • Pump wiring or connector not making contact
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Pause the cycle and unplug the washer. 2. Check that the drain hose behind the washer is not kinked or crushed. 3. Look for coins, buttons or fabric pieces you can reach in the basket and tub edge, and remove them. 4. If water remains in the tub, bail it out with a cup before moving the washer. 5. Plug in and try a drain-and-spin only.

! Why to stop there
  • A stalled pump is often jammed by a small object that only shows once the pump is reached
  • Running a seized pump again can burn out the motor
  • We give a written price before work and the repair is covered by a 30-day workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

245245 questions
Why is there water left in the tub with 245?

The Smart Pump handles moving water, so when it stalls the washer cannot get the water out. The water that was in the tub at that moment stays there until the pump is cleared or replaced.

Can I run the cycle again after clearing the hose?

Once, yes. If the hose was kinked and you straighten it, a drain-and-spin may complete. If 245 returns, the pump itself is stalling and should be looked at.

Should I bail the water out?

If you need to move the washer or wash clothes by hand, yes. Use a cup or small container with the power unplugged, since water and a plugged-in washer should not mix.
