Code 9 appears on Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart/EcoSmart top-load washers such as the WA37T26EW and WA42T26GW, and on SmartDrive top-loaders from Phase 1 to 6. It is a size switch error: the size switch setting on the Display Module does not match the setting stored in the washer's memory. The display shows 9 and the washer will not run normally until the two settings agree.
1. Unplug the washer or turn off its breaker for a full minute. 2. Restore power and press the power button. 3. Check whether 9 returns before you load any clothes. 4. If it does, do not keep restarting; call us with the model number from the lid or cabinet so we bring the right display.
It tells the washer which size and model it is. If the switch on the display does not agree with the memory, the washer reports code 9.
Sometimes a reset clears a one-time mismatch, but if the display and memory truly disagree, 9 comes straight back. That points to a display that needs checking.
Give us the full model number and tell us whether the display or control was recently replaced. That lets us bring a display set for your exact washer.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
