What 41 means

On Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart and EcoSmart top-load washers such as the WA37T26EW and WA42T26GW, and SmartDrive washers like the GWL11, code 41 is a temperature sensor error. The thermistor is measuring temperatures above 230 degrees F (110 degrees C), which the water cannot reach, so the line is probably shorted. The owner sees 41 and the washer may stop its water temperature control.

Common causes of 41

  • Thermistor sensor line shorted
  • Thermistor wiring or connector damaged
  • Thermistor failing
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Unplug the washer and wait a few minutes. 2. Check that the water faucets are connected to the right hot and cold supplies. 3. Run a cold-water cycle and see whether 41 appears. 4. If it persists, stop and book service.

! Why to stop there
  • The reading is impossible for real water, so the sensor or its wiring is the target
  • We test the sensor circuit before replacing the part
  • A written price comes first and the repair has a 30-day warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

4141 questions
Does 41 mean the water is dangerously hot?

No. The reading is too high to be real water, so it points to a shorted sensor line rather than actual heat.

Can I still wash in cold?

It may work, but the code usually remains until the sensor is checked.

Why would a sensor short?

Wiring wear, a damaged connector or a failing sensor can do it. That is why we test the circuit before choosing a part.
