What 27 means

On Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart top-load washers, code 27 reports a fabric softener valve error. The washer sees that the valve controlling softener release is not responding as expected. The owner sees 27 shown during the cycle, and fabric softener may not release into the rinse, or may drain with the wash water.

Will skipping softener stop the code?

Not by itself. The washer checks the valve whether or not you add softener, so 27 can still appear. Leaving softener out simply avoids a messy release while the valve is checked.

Can residue cause this?

Heavy buildup in the dispenser can disturb flow, so cleaning is worth trying first. If 27 persists on a clean dispenser, the valve or its wiring is the more likely cause.

Does it affect washing quality?

The wash itself is usually not affected. Only the softener step is, so clothes will still be cleaned.
