What 108 means

On Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart and EcoSmart top-load washers like the WA37T26EW and WA42T26GW, and SmartDrive Phase 6 integrated washers such as the GWL11, code 108 is a communications CRC error. A CRC is a check on each message, and the check failed, so the display and motor control modules disagree about what was sent. It is handled the same way as code 106, and the washer stops with the number showing.

Common causes of 108

  • Corrupted messages between display module and motor control module
  • Damaged or loose communications wiring
  • A failing display or motor control module
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the washer off and unplug it for one minute. 2. Reconnect it and run a short empty spin. 3. Inspect the outlet and cord, and avoid extension cords. 4. If code 108 repeats, stop and book a visit. The wiring and both boards need testing with the cabinet open, which we do with power disconnected.

! Why to stop there
  • A failed message check can come from wiring or either board
  • Testing requires access inside the cabinet
  • Part swapping without testing is expensive and unreliable
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

108108 questions
What is a CRC error?

It is a failed accuracy check on a message between boards. The washer sent data between the display and motor control modules and the check did not match, so it raised code 108.

How is it different from code 106?

It follows the same troubleshooting path as 106. Both describe a bad exchange between the display and motor control modules; 108 specifically reports the message check failing.

Is it worth repairing?

Often yes, because a communications problem can come from a single connector. We quote the price in writing before work and back it with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
