Code 6 on Fisher & Paykel SmartLoad and AeroSmart dryers, including the DEGX1, DGGX1, DE27CW1 and DG27CW1, is a user warning that the door is unable to close. Clothes are catching in the opening or the closing load is excessive. The display shows the code, and the cycle will not begin because the door does not register as closed. Most of the time the fix is as simple as removing a few items.
1. Open the door and take a few items out of the drum. 2. Check the rim and seal for any sleeve or sock trapped there. 3. Wipe away lint from the door edge. 4. Close the door gently and press Start. 5. If the dryer still shows the code with an empty drum, switch off the breaker for a minute, then call us if it persists.
Usually it is a reminder. Lightening the load and freeing a trapped garment fixes it most of the time. A repair call makes sense only if it appears with an empty drum.
If you have to press clothes down to shut the door, the load is too large. Split it into two smaller loads; the clothes also dry faster that way.
Then the dryer may not be sensing the door as closed. Try one power reset, and if the code remains, we should check the door actuator and latch.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
