What 137 means

On Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart/EcoSmart top-load washers such as the WA37T26EW and WA42T26GW, code 137 means the motor has lost a phase. One of the motor feeds is not carrying current, which points to a motor harness problem, an open-circuit winding inside the motor, or the Motor Control Module. The washer cannot turn the basket properly and shows 137. Cycles do not complete while the code shows.

Common causes of 137

  • Motor harness damaged or loose
  • Open-circuit winding inside the motor
  • Motor Control Module not driving every phase
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Pause the cycle and turn the washer off. 2. Switch off its breaker for one minute, then restore power. 3. Remove heavy items so the basket moves freely by hand. 4. Run a short rinse only. 5. If 137 appears again, stop and call us; do not open the cabinet.

! Why to stop there
  • Telling a harness, a winding and a control board apart needs meter readings on the motor leads.
  • Those leads carry household power, so owners should not test them.
  • We give a written price first and back the work with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

What does losing a phase mean?

The motor uses several power feeds. If one stops carrying current, the motor cannot turn smoothly, and the control reports code 137. The washer cannot hold its normal pace when one is missing.

Is the motor always the problem?

Not always. The harness and the Motor Control Module can cause the same code, which is why we test each before quoting a part. Meter readings on the leads tell us which one it is.

Can I keep using the washer?

We advise against it. A motor running short of a phase overheats and strains the control, and the cycle will not complete properly anyway. Further cycles also put extra heat into the motor.
