What 62 means

Code 62 on Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive Phase 5 top-load washers is a pump over-current error. The Motor Control Module detected excessive pump current and cut the pump circuit off to protect itself. The washer stops during draining and the display shows 62, often with water still in the tub. It often leaves water in the tub after the stop.

Common causes of 62

  • Drain pump drawing excessive current
  • Blockage or restricted drain making the pump work hard
  • Pump wiring or Motor Control Module pump output problem
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the washer off and switch off its breaker. 2. Check the drain hose for kinks and make sure the standpipe is clear. 3. Restore power and select drain/spin. 4. If 62 shows again, stop and call us. A technician should drain the tub.

! Why to stop there
  • The pump is inside the cabinet and may hold water.
  • A pump that draws too much current can overheat the control.
  • Written price before work and a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
