What 25 (SmartDrive) means

On Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive top-load washers with the Phase 5 Intuitive Display, code 25 reports an LCD initialization error. The Intuitive Display Module has detected a problem with the liquid crystal display during start-up. The owner may see missing segments, a garbled screen or a blank panel, and the washer may refuse to start a cycle.

Common causes of 25 (SmartDrive)

  • Liquid crystal display not starting up correctly
  • Display ribbon or connector loose
  • Display module failing
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Unplug the washer for five minutes, then plug it back in. 2. Watch the display at power-up and note which part looks wrong. 3. Avoid pressing the buttons hard or spraying cleaner on the panel. 4. If the screen is still wrong after two restarts, stop and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The screen is part of the display module and usually cannot be fixed in place
  • Cleaning sprays and pressing buttons can make a weak display worse
  • We quote the replacement in writing first and cover the work for 30 days
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

25 (SmartDrive)25 (SmartDrive) questions
Is 25 only a screen problem?

The code names the liquid crystal display, so the washer's mechanical parts are not what it is flagging. Because the display carries the buttons and cycle choices, though, a bad display can still prevent a cycle.

Why does it only show at power-up?

The LCD is set up when the washer is switched on, which is when the check runs. If the check fails, the washer reports it right away.

Can I run cycles without seeing the display?

Not reliably. You cannot confirm the settings, so a cycle could run on the wrong choices. It is better to have the display checked first.
