What F1 16 means

On current Fisher & Paykel OB24 and OB30 Series 7 and 9 built-in ovens such as the OB30SDPTX1 and OB24SDPTX1, F1 16 is a clock board crystal oscillator error. The crystal sets the board's timing. This can occur during baking with a lot of condensation, so you may see it after cooking moist food. The display shows the code, and the oven may stop its cycle.

Common causes of F1 16

  • Condensation affecting the clock board during baking
  • A crystal oscillator on the clock board that is failing
  • A clock board with a timing problem
  • A one-time disturbance during a cycle
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the oven off and let it cool with the door slightly ajar so moisture can escape. 2. Switch the breaker off for a minute and back on. 3. Set the clock and bake something dry for a short time. 4. If F1 16 returns, call us. Avoid wiping or spraying liquid near the control panel.

! Why to stop there
  • A timing crystal that misbehaves cannot be fixed in place, so the clock board is usually replaced.
  • Moisture in the control area needs to be found and ruled out.
  • We look for both the board and the source of condensation.
  • A written price comes first, followed by a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F1 16F1 16 questions
Why would steam from food cause this?

Moist baking produces condensation, which can reach the electronics. It can disturb the clock board's timing crystal and trigger F1 16, even if the board is otherwise fine.

Will it happen again?

It may, especially after wet, steamy cooking. If it recurs, the board is sensitive and may need replacing so that normal cooking does not trip it.

Should I avoid moist dishes?

You do not have to, but letting steam vent and not covering oven vents helps. If the code keeps appearing, repair is the real answer.
