On Fisher & Paykel ActiveSmart Ice & Water refrigerators like the E522BLXFDU, Code 27 means the ice maker motor current is high. The motor is working hard, which suggests an obstruction, a wiring problem or a gearbox motor that has gone wrong. The ice maker stops, and the LCD shows the code. The ice maker may grind or hum while it strains, and production may stop altogether until the strain is removed.
1. Unplug the refrigerator for five minutes and restart. 2. Empty the ice bin and look for a stuck block of ice. 3. Do not pry at the mechanism. 4. If Code 27 stays, call us. Do not chip at ice. Leave the arm in whatever position it stops in so we can see what happened.
A motor that is blocked or failing pulls more power. Code 27 flags that. The motor is in the ice maker head. The ice maker head holds the motor, so a replacement is typical for us.
They are related but separate. Code 26 is a timeout; Code 27 is excess motor current. Blocked ice is the first thing we look for when we open it up.
