On original E-series ActiveSmart refrigerators such as the E522BRXU, Code 9 means the fresh food (PC) sensor resistance is outside the normal range, above 45K ohms. The control cannot read the fresh food compartment temperature, so cooling there may be uneven. The code appears on the LCD with a spanner or as a beep and LED pattern. Shelves in the fresh food section may run warm.
1. Unplug the unit for five minutes and restart it. 2. Make sure food is not blocking the vents in the fresh food section. 3. Check that the door closes fully on its seal. 4. If Code 9 stays on, call us and keep the doors shut.
PC is the fresh food compartment. This sensor reports its air temperature so the control can decide when to cool it. It reports the fresh food area temperature to the control so it knows when to cool.
When the control has no valid reading, it can over-cool. Watch for frozen items on the fresh food shelves. Items near the vents may freeze while other shelves warm up.
Within a few days if food stays safe. We schedule a visit, give a written price first, and warrant our work for 30 days. Food safety comes first, so check shelf thermometers while you wait for service.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
