What Code 41 means

On Fisher & Paykel ActiveSmart Ice & Water refrigerators such as the E522BLXFDU, Code 41 means solenoid transistor 2 on the controller has shorted. It is the second driver for the ice maker solenoid. The ice maker stops filling correctly, and the LCD shows the code. It is the second of two drivers on the control, so the ice maker may still fill at times while the code shows. A leaking valve can leave ice frozen into a lump, so look for that too.

Common causes of Code 41

  • Second controller transistor shorted
  • Solenoid resistance out of range
  • Loose or damaged solenoid connection
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Unplug the refrigerator for five minutes and restart. 2. Shut the water valve if you hear water running at odd times. 3. Check behind the unit for drips. 4. If Code 41 returns, call us. Dry any water you find, and tell us about it when you call.

! Why to stop there
  • The driver sits on the control module.
  • A bad driver can keep the valve open.
  • We test the solenoid and connections and quote the module in writing.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Code 41Code 41 questions
How does it differ from Code 40?

Code 40 is transistor 1; Code 41 is transistor 2. Both drive the ice maker solenoid. The driver is part of the control module. Ask us about the repair on the visit.

Can I keep using the water dispenser?

The dispenser has its own valve, so often yes. Turn off water to the ice maker if it leaks. Water for the dispenser is separate, so it often keeps working.

What does the visit involve?

Testing, then replacing the control module if needed. A written quote comes first, and we give a 30-day workmanship warranty. The module is replaced only after you approve the price.
