Code 62 on Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive Phase 5 top-load washers is a pump over-current error. The Motor Control Module detected excessive pump current and cut the pump circuit off to protect itself. The washer stops during draining and the display shows 62, often with water still in the tub. It often leaves water in the tub after the stop.
1. Turn the washer off and switch off its breaker. 2. Check the drain hose for kinks and make sure the standpipe is clear. 3. Restore power and select drain/spin. 4. If 62 shows again, stop and call us. A technician should drain the tub.
The pump pulled more current than it should and the control shut it down. Causes range from a blockage to a failing pump. Blockage and a failing pump can both cause this.
With the pump circuit shut off, the tub cannot drain. A technician can empty it safely. A technician can empty the tub with proper equipment.
The idea is similar, but 62 is for SmartDrive Phase 5, while 253 is the SmartPump code on AquaSmart washers. Both codes involve a pump pulling too much current, on different platforms.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
