Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive Code 4: motor control cannot talk to display

What 4 (SmartDrive) means

On early Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive Phase 1 top-load washers, code 4 is a communications error seen from the motor control side. The Motor Control Module has had difficulty communicating with the Display Module, so the two parts of the control are not exchanging messages. The owner sees 4 on the display, and the washer may ignore buttons, stop mid-cycle or fail to start.
