On original E-series ActiveSmart refrigerators such as the E522BRXU, Code 5 means the freezer (FC) sensor resistance is outside the normal range, reading above 45K ohms. That usually means the sensor circuit is open or disconnected. The control loses its freezer temperature reading, which can throw off cooling. The code shows on the LCD or as a beep and LED pattern. Temperature control in the freezer suffers.
1. Unplug the refrigerator for five minutes and restart it. 2. Make sure frozen food is not packed against the rear wall of the freezer. 3. Check that the freezer door shuts firmly. 4. If Code 5 stays, call us and keep the doors closed meanwhile.
FC stands for the freezer compartment. This sensor reports the freezer temperature to the control, which uses it to decide when to cool. Cooling often continues in the meantime.
It may keep cooling, but without a valid reading it can drift too warm or too cold. Watch for softening food. We work from the connector toward the sensor, in that order.
We check the sensor connection at the power module and replace the sensor if it is open. The quote comes in writing first, and the work has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
