On original E-series ActiveSmart refrigerators like the E522BLXFDU, Code 4 is the mirror of Code 3: the resistance of all temperature sensors is outside the normal range, this time below 660 ohms. Since every sensor reads the same way at once, a shared connector or the power module is the suspect. Ice & Water models show it on the LCD. Cooling may run unevenly while it shows.
1. Turn the refrigerator off by unplugging it, wait five minutes, then restart. 2. Keep door openings short while you wait. 3. Check food in the freezer for softening. 4. If Code 4 comes back, call us rather than retrying. Avoid opening the doors more than necessary.
Code 3 means every sensor reads high, above 45K ohms. Code 4 means every sensor reads low, under 660 ohms. Both point to the shared connector or the power module.
Not on its own. When a single sensor fails, you get a sensor-specific code such as 5 through 9. Code 4 covers all of them, so the problem sits upstream.
Short term, yes, if food stays cold. Check temperatures often, and call us if the code repeats so we can quote the repair in writing. Ask us anything about it when you call, and we will explain the repair.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
