On original E-series ActiveSmart refrigerators like the E522BRXFDU, Code 2 means the previous two defrost cycles were aborted after 30 minutes. The freezer defrost element assembly is not finishing its job. You may see frost building on the freezer back wall, rising temperatures, or the code on the LCD or in the beep or LED pattern. Frost may be building up meanwhile in the freezer.
1. Check that vents inside the freezer are not blocked by food or ice. 2. Make sure the door seals shut all the way. 3. Move frozen food to a cooler if the freezer feels warm. 4. Unplug the unit overnight to melt frost, then restart. If Code 2 returns, call us.
The control stops a defrost after 30 minutes if it is not completing. Two aborted cycles in a row raise Code 2, which tells us the element assembly is the first thing to check.
Unplugging overnight with the doors open melts the frost and may clear the code for a while. It does not fix a failed element, so the code will usually return.
Fairly. Frost buildup cuts airflow and the freezer warms. Move food out if it softens, and we will schedule a visit with the price in writing first.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
