What A2 means

On current Fisher & Paykel OR30 and OR36 Series 7 and 9 ranges, such as the OR30SCG6X1 and OR36SDG6X1, and on pro ranges like the RDV3-304 and RIV3-486, A2 is a door lock error. The door cannot be locked after you started a Self Clean cycle, so the cleaning stops. The display shows A2. Powering off at the wall and on usually clears the first occurrence.

Common causes of A2

  • A door not closed firmly enough to lock
  • Debris or grease around the latch
  • A door lock motor or switch that does not engage
  • A control that did not register the locked door
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Cancel the cycle and let the range cool if it is warm. 2. Turn the range off at the wall, wait about ten seconds, then turn it on again. 3. Set the clock. 4. Close the oven door firmly and start Self Clean again. 5. If A2 returns, stop and call us. On a gas range, if you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.

! Why to stop there
  • Self clean should never run without a working lock, and a safety stop cannot be bypassed.
  • Telling a worn lock from a control problem needs testing.
  • We check the latch and lock and quote in writing first.
  • A 30-day workmanship warranty covers our repair.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

A2A2 questions
Can I still use the cooktop with A2 showing?

Yes, A2 concerns the oven door lock. Surface burners or elements generally keep working. Avoid using the oven's Self Clean until the lock is repaired.

A2 vanished after a reset. Is the range fixed?

If Self Clean now locks and runs, the reset cleared a glitch. If A2 appears next time, the lock needs inspection. We would rather catch a weak lock before it sticks fully.

Does A2 mean the oven is dirty?

No. Heavy soiling does not cause it. The alert is about the door lock failing to engage, not about how much needs cleaning. A very clean oven can show it too.
