On Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart/EcoSmart top-load washers such as the WA37T26EW and WA42T26GW, code 72 is a pressure transducer error called maximum positive drift. The washer re-zeros its water-level sensor at the end of every cycle, and this code means the new zero reading sits far above the original factory value. The display shows 72 and the washer may stop or refuse to start the next cycle.
1. Let the washer drain fully and make sure the tub is empty. 2. Turn the washer off at the control, switch off its breaker for one minute, then restore power. 3. Start a short rinse with no clothes. 4. If 72 appears again, stop using the washer and call us; the sensor and control board need a proper measurement.
The washer re-zeros its water-level sensor at the end of every cycle. If that fresh zero reading differs strongly from the original factory value, it reports 72.
A power reset can clear a one-time glitch, but if the sensor has truly drifted the number returns on the next cycle. A repeat of 72 means a technician should check it.
The washer relies on that sensor to judge water level, so running more loads is not wise. Fill levels may be wrong, which risks overfilling or a poor wash.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
