Code 55 on Fisher & Paykel SmartDrive Phase 3 to 6 top-load washers means a system step fail. During a cycle the washer moves through a series of steps, and one of them did not complete as required. The control stops the cycle and shows 55 rather than continue with a step that did not finish. The exact step depends on where the cycle stopped.
1. Let the washer stop and open the lid once the basket is still. 2. Remove the clothes and check nothing is jammed. 3. Switch off the breaker for one minute and restore power. 4. Run a short cycle with a light load. 5. If 55 returns, call us with the model number.
A wash cycle is a chain of steps such as fill, agitate, drain and spin. Code 55 says one step in that chain did not finish correctly.
The code reports only that a step failed. We find the cause by testing the parts that belong to the step the washer was on when it stopped.
One retry after a reset is fine. If 55 returns, further tries just repeat the stop, so call us. Please note which stage the washer was in when it stopped.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
