Returning from vacation or an evacuation and smelling something burning when you preheat? Often it is dust and residue, but here is how to tell the difference.
After a long trip or a storm evacuation, many Houston families switch the oven on and are greeted by an acrid smell. Most of the time it is harmless, yet it deserves a careful look.
Run the oven empty with the kitchen hood on and a window cracked open for about thirty minutes. If the smell fades steadily, you are most likely dealing with residue burning off.
Look for things that should not be there: a forgotten baking sheet, plastic lids, wrappers left in the warming drawer area, or food that small pests carried in. Humid weather is hard on closed kitchens, and a quick look can save a lot of smoke.
Turn the range off if an odor grows stronger rather than weaker. Rodents occasionally chew wire insulation in homes that were empty for a while, and that is not something to test by cooking.
We inspect the cavity, the visible wiring and the burner area, check temperatures against the display, and tell you plainly whether anything needs work. See the details on our range repair page.
Whenever you are ready, pick one of our three-hour windows, 9 to 12, 1 to 4 or 4 to 7, and we will confirm by message. You will know the cost in writing before work begins, and every repair is covered for 30 days.
