Fisher & Paykel CoolDrawer Staying Too Warm or Cold: What to Check Before You Call

If a CoolDrawer is not holding the temperature you picked, start with the mode, the load and the seal. These checks take a few minutes and often explain it.

A CoolDrawer is meant to be flexible, and that flexibility is why a drawer that seems wrong is often just set differently than you remember. Go through these checks in order before assuming a repair.

Start with the settings

  • Look at the display and note the chosen mode or temperature. A wiping cloth or a curious child can change it unnoticed.
  • Check that the display is on and not showing a code. If a code is shown, write down exactly what it says.
  • Give the drawer several hours to settle after any change. A drawer that was just loaded with warm items will not look right at once.

Look at the load and the seal

  • A crowded basket can keep the drawer from shutting completely. Push it closed slowly and watch both sides seat evenly.
  • Wash the gasket with warm water and a drop of mild soap, because sticky spills hold the seal away from the cabinet.
  • Look for frost or condensation along the front edge. Moisture there often points to a gap.
  • Keep packaging, trays and bottles away from the back wall so air can circulate.

Check the surroundings

Make sure the kitchen is not unusually hot and that the refrigerator has not been bumped out of level. A drawer on a unit that rocks or leans may not close squarely.

When it is time for a technician

If the settings are right, the seal is clean, the drawer closes flush and the temperature still drifts, the cause could be a sensor, a damper or a cooling part. Do not trust the drawer with anything perishable until you have checked it with a thermometer.
