On Fisher & Paykel ActiveSmart Ice & Water refrigerators such as the E522BRXU, Code 28 means the ice maker water solenoid current is high. The solenoid or its connections draw more power than expected. The ice maker may not fill correctly, and the LCD shows the code. The ice maker may fill poorly or not at all. A bad valve can also let water trickle into the tray at the wrong moments, so look for ice frozen into a lump.
1. Unplug the unit for five minutes and restart. 2. Check the water supply valve is fully open. 3. Look for water pooling behind the refrigerator. 4. If Code 28 returns, call us. Also check that the supply line behind the unit is not kinked and does not drip. Wipe up any water you see.
It is the electric valve that lets water into the ice maker. The solenoid is mounted near the rear water inlet. The ice maker head and valve are different parts, so we replace only the right one.
Moisture at the plug can raise current. We dry and test it. Dry the area only if you can see it without moving the refrigerator. A short check is quick.
Replace the solenoid or repair the connection. We quote in writing and warrant the work for 30 days. Parts are ordered after you approve the written price.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
