On original E-series ActiveSmart refrigerators such as the E522BRXU, Code 17 means the FC (freezer) fan draws less current than expected. Its wiring is open, or the fan has failed. The freezer fan moves air over the evaporator, so food can warm and frost may build. The code shows on the LCD or as a beep and LED pattern. Frost may also appear on the freezer back wall.
1. Unplug the refrigerator for five minutes and restart it. 2. Check that the freezer vents are not blocked by packages. 3. Move food to a cooler if the freezer feels soft. 4. If Code 17 returns, call us promptly. Avoid opening the door often.
It pulls air across the evaporator coil and circulates it through the freezer. Without it, cooling falls off quickly. It lives behind the freezer back wall. Check it soon.
Check the freezer today. If food is softening, move it, and call us the same day. If food is soft, treat it with caution and use a cooler right away.
