Fisher & Paykel Induction Cooktop Keeps Beeping: Pans, Spills and Touch Controls

A cooktop that chirps over and over is trying to tell you something. These are the usual reasons, from cookware placement to a stray drop of water.

Few things are more annoying than an induction cooktop that beeps through dinner. The sound is usually the cooktop reacting to something it senses, and the cure is often free.

Look at the pan first

Induction only heats cookware that responds to a magnet. Try holding a small magnet to the bottom of the pan; if it does not stick firmly, the pan will not work properly. Also check that the base is flat and sits fully over the zone ring.

  • A pan much smaller than the zone may be ignored or may keep cutting in and out.
  • A warped base rocks slightly and breaks the connection.
  • Pans slid across the glass can shift mid-cook and set off the beep.

Then check the glass

Water, a wet cloth or a pot lid resting on the touch controls will register as a press. Wipe the panel dry and clear everything off it. A thin film of cooking oil near the controls can cause the same sort of phantom presses.

Heat and airflow

Induction electronics have a cooling fan beneath the glass. If vents are blocked by stored baking trays or a crowded cabinet below, the cooktop can protect itself by reducing power and signaling with tones.

  1. Switch off all zones and wait about ten minutes.
  2. Clear the space under the cooktop.
  3. Restart with a known good magnetic pan on a single zone.

When the beeping continues

If it persists with an empty cooktop, or a message stays on the display, there may be a worn control or a sensor needing replacement. We can check this on a cooktop repair visit, and the cost is explained on paper before we start.
