What A20 means

On Fisher & Paykel built-in dishwashers from the DW24U and DW60 platform, including the DW24U6I1 and DW24UT2I2, A20 is a drain error. The dishwasher cannot empty its water in the expected time. Listed causes are a crimped or bent drain hose, a blocked drain connection, a dirty turbidity sensor, or a blocked drain pump. Owners see A20 and standing water in the tub.

Common causes of A20

  • Drain hose crimped or bent
  • Blocked connection at the sink drain or disposal
  • Dirty turbidity sensor
  • Blocked drain pump
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the dishwasher off. Remove the lower rack and clean the filter under the spray arm. 2. If you have a garbage disposal, run it clear and check the knockout plug is removed. 3. Check that the drain hose is not kinked behind the unit. 4. Switch on again and restart. If A20 returns, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Pump and sensor cleaning needs the tub or lower panel opened.
  • Standing water can hide food debris or broken glass near the drain.
  • You see the price on paper first; the repair then comes with our 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

A20A20 questions
Why is there water left in the tub with A20?

A20 means the dishwasher could not pump out its water. A kinked drain hose, a clogged sink connection or a blocked pump leaves water in the bottom.

Can I clean the drain pump myself?

We would rather you did not. Rinsing the filter is safe, but reaching the pump means opening the lower area with live wiring and water lines nearby, which is a technician's job.

Will you check the sink connection too?

Yes. We look at the hose route, the sink connection and the disposal, because a blockage outside the machine is a common reason for A20. You get a written price first.
