Fisher & Paykel CD5DG1 Auxiliary Downdraft Service

Modular cooktop layouts often include a CD5DG1, the 5-inch Series 11 auxiliary downdraft, tucked into the counter next to the burners or elements. It is a slim unit and it works close to the heat, so the intake takes in steam and grease more directly than an overhead hood does.
On service calls we look first at the intake filter, since a film of grease there cuts airflow in a way you can feel with your hand over the slot. Then we trace the duct beneath the cabinet for kinks and buildup, and test the switch and blower. The cabinet below usually has to be cleared so we can see the unit and its ducting.
Expect a written price before we start. We cover the repair with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
If you cook with oil often, check it every few weeks. A filter that feels sticky or looks gray is already restricting air and should be washed or replaced.
Like any hood, it needs somewhere to send the air. We look at the existing duct for restrictions and confirm the air actually leaves the house or travels to its intended outlet.
A hum without airflow can mean a seized blower or a failing starter capacitor. We test the motor with power off first, then decide whether it needs a replacement or a smaller part.
