Keeping the Burner Caps on Your Fisher & Paykel Rangetop Seated Right After Cleaning

A cap that sits a little crooked is a leading reason for a ragged flame after cleaning. Here is how to put everything back so the burners behave.

Most flame complaints we hear after a deep clean come down to one thing: a burner cap or head that went back in slightly off. It takes a minute to avoid.

Before you lift anything

Make sure all burners are off and the rangetop is cool. Take off the grates first and set them aside, then lift each cap straight up without twisting.

Cleaning the parts

  • Soak caps and heads in warm water with a little dish soap, then scrub gently with a soft brush.
  • Clear the small slots around the head with a toothpick or a soft bristle, never a metal pin that can widen them.
  • Leave the parts to air dry fully. In Houston humidity this can take several hours, so overnight is better than a quick towel rub.

Reseating correctly

  1. Set each head onto its base so the notch or tab lines up.
  2. Place the cap on top and give it a light wiggle. It should sit level and not rock.
  3. Replace the grates and light each burner in turn.

A healthy flame is steady and mostly blue, with a ring of even points around the burner. If one side is taller or the flame lifts away from the head, turn the burner off and recheck the seating before trying again.

What not to do

Do not run a cap through the dishwasher unless the manual for your model says it is fine, and keep water out of the igniter hole in the center. A wet igniter will click and click without lighting, which is easy to mistake for a failed part.

If the flame is still uneven once everything is dry and seated, our team can inspect the burner on a rangetop repair visit. Choose a convenient arrival window, review the written estimate, and rest easy under our 30-day warranty. We serve homes throughout the Greater Houston area.
