Where the layout calls for a 36-inch cooktop on an island or peninsula, the HD36 gives the Series 7 telescopic downdraft in a wider size. The panel rises behind the cooktop during cooking and lowers flush afterward, so no overhead hood blocks sight lines across an open kitchen.
On inspection we raise and lower the panel several times, watching for hesitation or noise, and open the cabinet to check the drive and the ducting below. Spills that run down behind the cooktop can reach the mechanism, so we look for residue. The filter, blower and switch are all tested, and the duct is checked for grease and kinks.
